In less than a week's time, Preakness betting enthusiasts from across the world will gather around to take in this year's second leg of the Triple Crown of America. After winning the first leg of the Triple Crown sports betting event, the Kentucky Derby, all eyes will be on Animal Kingdom in hopes that the colt can win part two of three. It has been 33 years since the last Triple Crown winner, and hopefully Animal Kingdom can break the curse. Here is a prediction for the upcoming Preakness Stakes race set for Saturday May 21, 2011.

After winning the Kentucky Derby as a 24 to one long shot last weekend at Churchill Downs, Animal Kingdom has already been listed as the odds on favorite to win the Preakness Stakes this coming weekend. Now in years past, the rise in odds would seem unjustified, as just because a horse won the first stage of the Triple Crown, didn't necessarily mean they would win stage two. However, consider that Animal Kingdom is a Maryland bred horse, that uses Pimlico Racecourse as its home track, and the new odds seem very justifiable.

Last Monday when the new Preakness odds were established, Animal Kingdom opened up as a four to one favorite to win the race. This week, the horse has already received a lot of attention, as Animal Kingdom's odds went from four to one, to five to two. Meaning to say, for bettors liking Animal Kingdom to win stage two of the three stage race, you will have to bet a pretty penny to make a pretty penny.

Aside from Animal Kingdom, a horse that is receiving a lot of betting action is second place Derby finisher, Nehro. After leading near the final stretch of the Kentucky Derby, Nehro was unable to finish out the race as Animal Kingdom swooped in for the victory. Yet, with odds of two to one to win the Preakness Stakes, many handicappers, believe that Nehro is due for a victory.
