WWE Raw fans can respect the idea of a trilogy, and even they should be excited for next Saturday’s main event at UFC 136 in Houston, where lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will take on Gray Maynard for the third time. Edgar is looking to avenge his only loss, while Maynard is aiming for his first UFC belt.

Edgar (13-1-1) has a loss and a draw against Maynard, and really, he should have two losses after a horrible first round at UFC 125, but to his credit the champ fought back and almost stole the match. Your bookie software has factored in Edgar’s heart and will, but players should also realize that he is incredibly versatile and comfortable wherever the fight goes.

Maynard (10-0-1, 1 NC) isn’t the most technical striker, but Edgar will tell you that he packs power in his punches, and he’s a strong wrestler, hence his nickname (“The Bully”). He’s a huge lightweight who uses his size to dictate fights, and he’ll stick to the same plan against Edgar.

UFC odds have Edgar as a -150 favorite in this 155-pound showdown, while Maynard is listed at +120, and it’s tough to see this ending before the five-round limit. It’s going to be a battle of wills and styles, but Edgar’s versatility should give him an edge and he’ll finally be able to get past Maynard, who will probably get another shot down the line.
