MLB betting players are getting ready to head into the All-Star break, and when the season resumes the intensity is going to go up on the diamond. Here are a couple of darkhorse picks to look at as you go through your sports betting odds for the World Series.

American League

While Boston and the Yankees are always going to be favored, you’d have to get past Tampa Bay and probably Texas before getting to the Los Angeles, who have one of the best one-two pitching punches in the league in Jered Weaver and Dan Haren. They don’t have a big lineup, but they have a lot of veterans who can provide timely hitting, which is what powered San Francisco to the World Series crown last year. Of course, they’ll have to get past the Rangers in the West because the wild card will likely go to the East, but if they get in the postseason, anything can happen for Los Angeles.

National League

It’s tempting to put the Giants here after last year’s run, but this year’s nod goes to the Brewers, who can hit with anyone in the majors, powered by Prince Fielder, Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks. Their key will be the starting pitchers as Zack Greinke, Shaun Marcum and Yovani Gallardo don’t have a lot of experience, and there are Greinke’s well-documented problems with anxiety. If he can shake those, the Brewers have a bonafide ace in their pocket, and they could be a threat in your online sportsbook.
